WWE 2K Battlegrounds Review

WWE 2K Battlegrounds

Please note: Before writing this review I have played most game modes and spent a few hours doing so, also thank you for reading this

So, when this game was first announced it had some mixed opinions

As seen by the like to dislike ratio on the teaser trailer, I however was one of the people who quite liked the sound of this game, it sounded like a crazy arcade game, In the trailer it had some  crazy power-ups, cartoony character design which people said looked like trolls and I kind of agree, for me and a lot of people I felt like this game would have a ton of micro-transactions and here we are in 2021

When this game first came out I didn’t bother to go out and buy it, although I normally do this for most new games, I looked at other people’s gameplay and it had micro-transactions, anyway a couple of months ago this game came out on Playstation Now so then I thought I might as well download it as it didn’t take up too much storage. So, this game came with (Without buying anything) all the game modes, which you’d expect, 31 male superstars and 14 divas, which in my opinion is quite good. This game retails in the UK for £17.99 at GAME which is a bargain compared to the buggy mess of 2k20 which costs £40.

There are 6 game modes; Campaign, Tournament, King Of The Battleground, Battleground Challenge, Exhibition Women, Exhibition Men. Each Exhibition mode has the same 9 game modes; One-On-One, Tag Team, Royal Rumble, Tornado Tag Team, Steel Cage 1v1, Gauntlet, Steel Cage 2v2, Fatal 4 Way and Triple Threat. I hopped into the classic, one vs one. Most of the really well-known stars were locked behind micro-transactions or you can use battle bucks which can be earned from playing matches. Honestly, the actual gameplay was a lot better than I expected, it was fun and cartoony and hit me with a blast of nostalgia as it felt similar to WWE All Stars, which is one of my favourite WWE games ever. Dealing damage to your opponent allows you to fill up your power up bar.

The Flaming fist power up allows your hands to turn into flames and deal more damage, the Speedy Recovery power up allows your health to regenerate quicker and the Unblockable Force power up means all of your moves cannot be blocked meaning you can’t use reversals. Each of these abilities can be upgraded. Sometimes the game can have some glitches like when I was playing I somehow managed to glitch and I was above the ring then I was disqualified for being out of the ring but it’s nothing compared to WWE 2K20.

Anyway, the conclusion, in conclusion I personally am quite a big fan of WWE 2K Battlegrounds, fun gameplay, cartoony characters, great game modes and it keeps me interested for a long time, theres only a couple complaints I have micro-transactions are annoying but most games unfortunately have them now and there’s quite a few bugs that’s all for this review thanks for reading and make sure to check out my other posts.
