How to turn off assists in F1 2021
Hey everyone, we’re back and are here to teach you how to turn off assists in F1 2021. This will include traction control, ABS, and the racing line as these can be the trickiest assists to conquer. However, we will be covering other assists in other articles
Traction Control – Traction control is probably the trickiest assist to turn off. This is because if you get it wrong it will cost you the most time and can result in a DNF.
To conquer traction control, we first must understand what it is. Traction control reduces power to the driving wheels if it detects wheelspin. This may sound great, but it can really slow down your lap times as it can reduce power in unnecessary circumstances. To be able to thrive with traction control off you need to have a gentle touch on the throttle, make sure to be patient with throttle input coming out of a corner or else you will spin. I would also recommend just turning it off rather than spending hours in time trial as it doesn’t prepare you for actual race scenarios, also different fuel modes and ERS modes can make time trial without traction control harder. Another tip for turning off traction control is to up your on-throttle differential, it does have negative effects on tyre wear but these are very minimal.
ABS – ABS can be a hit and miss assist for some people. Some find it easy, some find it tricky. When making mistakes with ABS turned off it can lead to tyre wear and poor braking.
ABS is an assist which will detect when the wheels are going to lockup and will release the brakes to stop the wheels from locking up. Once again, this may sound good but by releasing the brakes it can reduce your ability to brake harder and later. To help conquer this assist, many players of the F1 game use a technique called trail braking. This is where you brake hard in a straight line and as you begin to increase your steering input you slowly release the brakes. This technique is very effective as it gives you good braking performance without triggering a lockup.
Racing Line – The racing line is an assist which visualizes the standard racing line and the braking points around a track
The problem with this assist is that it does not always show the quickest line through a corner and it doesn’t show the best braking points, it can also hinder your wheel-to-wheel racing ability as players will tend to be glued to the racing line which can cause them to be unaware of the cars around them. Fortunately, this is probably the easiest assist to turn off. It is very simple to be able to become confident with the assist turned off. To conquer this assist drive alot of laps in time trial with the racing line off, find your braking point and find different objects on track as a reference for that braking point. This can be a flag, a brake distance board, scuffs on the track, anything!
Thank you for reading this guide and I hope you are able to begin to turn these assists off.
