The Technology Verdict
Playstation VR vs Oculus Quest 2

Playstation VR vs Oculus Quest 2

Hey everyone in this head to head we will be discussing Playstation VR vs Oculus Quest 2. This will be split up into different categories and at the end whoever has won the most categories will be determined the winner. Please note that these are just my personal experiences and may differ to yours and with that lets get started.

Round 1 : Comfort

For this category the result will be based on how it feels whilst wearing it and how long I can play without feeling discomfort.

Both headsets are quite comfy to wear for a while, as I’m not a glasses wearer I can’t really say how comfortable it is with glasses but both headsets offer options for people wearing glasses. The oculus quest 2 comes with a plastic spacer and PSVR has a button on top of the headset that simply allows you to slide the lenses until you feel comfortable. Both headsets you can adjust how tight it is on your head. In my opinion the Oculus Quest 2 strap feels a bit cheap, although this would be more cost effective, as a result it is quite a lot less comfortable than the well built PSVR strap. The winner of this category is: Playstation VR

Round 2 : Immersion

For this category the result will be based on how well immersed I feel whilst playing games

This isn’t too much of a hard choice, the PSVR using the power of a Playstation 4 unfortunately makes it lack graphically, although there isn’t much light leak (when you have the VR headset on and you can see light from the outside world) which does help with immersion. But The Oculus Quest 2 has far better graphics and with a recent update The Oculus Quest 2 uses 90hz which allows for even smoother gameplay. The winner of this category is: Oculus Quest 2

Round 3 : Games

For this category the result will be based on how fun games are to play on each headset and what exclusives the headsets have

This category is hard because both headsets have quite a lot of the same games like Vader Immortal, Beat Saber, Job Simulator. But there are games that play better or aren’t on the other platform. The Oculus Quest 2 has population one, The Climb, Star Wars tales from the galaxy’s edge and many more but most of these games aren’t really exclusives as they are on PC VR except from Tales from the galaxy’s edge. Meanwhile the PSVR has true exclusives such as Astro Bot Rescue Mission, Blood And Truth, Firewall Zero Hour, Playstation VR World, Until Dawn Rush of Blood. The winner of this category: Playstation VR

Round 4 : Tracking

For this category the result will be based on how well the headsets track my movements in VR

Now, both headsets don’t have amazing tracking mainly due to PSVR using one camera and i’m not too sure on how the Oculus Quest 2 tracking works, butt we have to compare them. For this I will be playing Beat Saber on both headsets as it heavily relies on controller and headset tracking. Lets start with the PSVR now for the most part the PSVR headset tracking is decent, it uses lights on the headset which allow the camera to track it same goes with the controllers. PSVR controllers isn’t really too great because of the way PSVR does the tracking when you put the controllers behind you your controllers in-game do an enthusiastic dance and slowly float away. With The Oculus Quest 2 the headset and controllers pretty good tracking for the most part, previously I owned a PSVR (and still do) and when I got The Oculus Quest 2 I all of a sudden got better. Although at times The Quest 2 tracking can be slightly glitchy but you can move the controllers basically anywhere your headset is. The winner of this category: The Oculus Quest 2

Round 5 Tiebreaker : Price

For this category the result will be based on the price and what comes included with the price

Both headsets have a similar price of £259.99 for the PSVR starter pack and £299.99 for The Oculus Quest 2 64gb version and £399.99 for the 256gb but this will be comparing the 64gb version. Now let’s compare whats in the box, in The Oculus Quest 2 box you get: The headset, two touch controllers, a charging cable, two AA batteries already in the controllers, a power adapter and a glasses spacer. In the PSVR starter pack box you get: The headset, a playstation camera, a Playstation VR Worlds download code, a HDMI cable, a USB cable, an AC power chord and a connection box. Unfortunately, the PSVR starter pack and mega pack do not come with the move controllers which cost £69.99 extra which would bring the cost to £329.98. The winner of this category and this head to head The Oculus Quest 2.
